Instructor Recommendation for Presentation “Clicker” remote

The only thing missing from the “Classroom in a Box” is a Presentation Remote or “Clicker”. As a seasoned Instructor teaching with computers for years I can recommend a value priced alternative to the “Clickers” sold in big box retail stores which is more than suitable for TPWD Hunter Education Instructors. These Presentation Remotes can be easily and cheaply purchased from either eBay or Amazon.

When searching eBay or Amazon search for “R400 presentation remote”. R400 is a LogiTech brand model number but there are dozens of “knock off” versions of these remotes that can be had for as little as $7.00 plus shipping. We purchased 8 units 4 years ago and they keep working as they should though we have well used and abused them in the classroom and in the field.

The R400 style presentation remote controls are very straight forward and easy for the operator to use. The R400 type presentation remote is a very robust unit and has never let myself or other instructors in our group down. The unit has a USB receiver (stored in the bottom of the grip”, that plugs into the laptop.

The R400 style presentation remote is truly “Plug & Play”. To operate – simply, plug in USB receiver, turn on power switch and that is it.

The R400 type remote has a built in Red laser pointer.
NOTE: Never point laser towards anyone’s eyes. The laser is eye safe but it is not a wise idea to point the laser at any person.

The remote uses two AAA batteries.
NOTE: Don’t forget to have spare batteries on hand in your teaching kit. These units do not eat batteries but from experience the batteries will fail at the most inappropriate time (i.e. in the middle of class), if you forget to turn the unit off between uses. As a TPWD Hunter Education Instructor you are always prepared just put extra batteries in your kit.
